A crew from Marine Rescue Batemans Bay has taken a 6m cabin cruiser that broke down 20nm offshore with two people on board under tow.

The boat had a mechanical failure at the shelf and was too deep to anchor.

Rescue vessel Batemans 30, with Eris Kennedy, Peter Bladwell and Paul Hallam (pictured) on board, is under way back to shore.

The crew estimates it will reach the Hanging Rock boat ramp not long before 7pm.
